Ten U.S. troops, eight of them Marines based at New River Air Station in Onslow County, were killed during a training exercise off the African coast.
The Jacksonville community is reacting with mixed emotions. The Marines were all part of a squadron that's part of the Second Marine Aircraft Wing based at New River Air Station in Onslow County.
As authorities try to figure out what caused the crash, community members we talked to are split on the accident. New River Air Station where the Marines were based is planning a memorial service for the fallen troops. Those men were expected to return home in April.
