They just opened a state of the art cancer and blood center in Beaufort County and already planners are looking to the very near future.
The brand new Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center held their open house Sunday afternoon. The center has the capabilities for transfusions and iron treatments for blood illnesses, as well as chemotherapy for cancer patients. However, officials say radiation treatments are coming by 2007. The center will give patients a closer option then driving all the way to Pitt County Memorial Hospital for treatments, hopefully, bringing a speedier recovery time as well.
Chief Meteorologist Marvin Daugherty wanted to check out the open house. Although Saturday was the open house, the center has already been treating patients since mid-January.
