African Americans have been influential in founding this country's music. They were the innovators of jazz, the blues, and of course motown, and its the latter that had folks flocking to Wright Auditorium Saturday night.
It was all part of the 10th Anniversary Motown Show which kicked off at 8 o'clock Saturday night on the campus of East Carolina University. The show featured musicians from out of town, but also had some local talent like ECU faculty and even some students. Carroll V. Dashiell Junior, the director of the Jazz Studies Program at ECU, says this performance is meant to recognize black history, while having a great time.
