OFFICIALS: Coast Guard Medevacs Heart Attack Victim From Cruise Ship Off Cape Hatteras

The Coast Guard says that it medevaced a man suffering from a heart attack out on the open water.

Officials say that the 81-year-old was aboard the Norwegian Breakaway, a 1,063-foot cruise ship, approximately 55 miles southwest of Cape Hatteras.

Watchstanders were contacted by the captain of the ship around 4 a.m., according to the Coast Guard.

Officials say a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched from Elizabeth City.

We're told the man was hoisted onto the helicopter and taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he is in stable condition.
