TROOPERS: Texting ECU Student Lands Upside Down In Ditch

Troopers say an ECU student was texting on her phone when she ran off the road and landed upside down in a ditch.

The crash happened on Stantonsburg Road at Westpointe Drive, outside of Greenville around 9:00 a.m.

The Highway Patrol has charged Carmen Freeman with texting while driving.

The 19-year-old woman was not hurt in the accident.

Freeman says she was wearing a seat belt and was able to crawl out a back window to safety. The college student says she was on her way to class when she over-corrected and ran off the road into the ditch.
