Murder Charges Brought In Twins Death Save Email Print

The Duplin County district attorney this afternoon filed two murder charges in the death of twins killed when their pregnant mother was shot.

Gregory Chapman now faced two open counts of murder and is being held without bond.

D.A. Dewey Hudson says he obtained the birth certificates for the twins today from Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Hudson says the doctor told him the babies were born and then died.

Lisa Wallace was 5 months pregnant when she was shot in Warsaw. She immediately went into labor and the twins were born.

In North Carolina, a fetus must actually take a breath before murder charges can be filed.

Chapman, who was arrested in New York last week, will have a first court appearance Thursday morning.

i understand that in order to keep abortion legal, we cant charge someone with murdering a 'fetus', however, just like it is the law for women to have a choice, i think women should have a choice whether or not to consider the lives of their unborn children as valuable (perhaps having a waiver signed in the case of an abortion). it is unfair for those who do not wish to abort their child but lose a fetus due to an assault or an accident not to be able to get justice for their loss. i am glad their are going to be murder charges in this case! but most of all, as the mother of twins my heart goes out FULLY to this mother, and has been since i heard the story on the news.

Anyone against the death penalty should take a long look at this crime. I agree with Keith "no trial needed".

I agree! It was murder either way. I believe they were "real live babies" before they were born. I understand "the law" does not see it that way. Who makes the laws like that? Is it people WE elect?

I wish we could just send him straight to the chair. No trial needed!!!

Maybe there will be justice for the little babies(born or unborn)in North Carolina after all.
