Nash County-Rocky Mount Schools Returning To Traditional School Calendar

Several elementary schools in Nash County have been sending kids to class year round since the early 90s. And due to several problems, the school board voted to end their year round program beginning this fall. When the program first started, school officials say it offered remediation and enrichment programs for students who were falling behind. Officials say state funding began to shrink, ending those extra programs. Since the year round curriculum was no longer doing what it was designed for, the school board voted this week to go back to the traditional school year. Teachers with the program say the switch should not impede student learning. The Nash Rocky Mount schools being affected is Johnson Elementary, Hubbard, Nashville and Winstead Avenue Elementary.
