Just because a teacher sleeps with a student does not mean he is a flight risk. If he has lived in the area his entire life, has no criminal record, and has family/friends all from the same area, he would not be as big of a flight risk as a drug dealer from New York that was caught in NC and also had passports to exit the country. The whole purpose of the bond is not meant to be a form of punishment, punishment will be handed down AFTER he/she is convicted in court by a jury of peers.

Bob you really cant compare this to a teacher sleeping with a student. In many cases its consensual. That is why there are laws specifically banning teachers from sleeping with students because in some cases the student is older then the age of consent.

Bob your second comment was well stated. The bond should've been higher. He really dont need a bond until they see if any other victims.

To all: don't get me wrong, maybe I did not word it right. I am glad he got the 2 million dollar bond and I think bond should be set high for anybody that commits such horrible crimes. But you would have to admit, sometimes the bond is set way too low. I mean come on, the teachers having sex with their students did not get a bond this high and they should have too. Ultimately those teachers were secretly putting hundreds of youth at risk of being preyed upon. The only way to clean this place up is stiffer bonds, stiffer penalties, and stiffer jail time.

I am glad she survived the attack. To the person below, bond is not set as a form of punishment, it is to ensure that the defendant appears in court. Cases are not compared when issuing bonds, it is on a case by case basis.

The bond is sufficient!! A crime was committed against this women. She was violated, and whether she died or not is not a question anyone would ask if it were a member of their family.

Bob, Surely you understand that this is an individual society has proven WILL repeat this same crime again. The women in your life, and women everywhere, are safer tonight having this animal behind bars. The other animals you speak of may not be as big of a threat to society in general. If found guilty lock them ALL up & throw away the key.

So sad. More crime in Greenville. My prayers are with the family and victim.

Did she die? If not that is a steep a steep bond compared to some of the other crimes that have recently happened. ie. the boy tied to a tree that passed away.

EDITOR'S NOTE: No, the victim survived.
