A Winston-Salem businessman has been named the new U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported Monday Jim Culbertson has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate for the post. Culbertson is a former computer executive who directed President Bush's fundraising
efforts in North Carolina in 2004. He also raised money for Bush in
2000.
Culbertson may not have the job long since ambassadors serve at the pleasure of the president and Bush leaves office in January.
Culbertson said at his confirmation hearing his top priorities would include working to overcome anti-American sentiment held by the Netherland's growing population of Muslim immigrants. He also said he would work to heal tensions between Muslim immigrants and native-born Dutch.
