UPDATE: Police Chase In Greenville Leads To Arrests Save Email Print

Imagine walking out of a store at night, and finding two strangers in your car. Greenville Police say that happened to a man leaving the Greenville Wal-Mart early Tuesday. That ended up leading to a police chase.

Greenville police say two suspected gang members were arrested.

Authorities say when the man spotted the two men in his car, they took off running. A police officer patrolling the area later spotted who is believed to be the same men, because the matched the descriptions of the men that broke into the car, police say. Detectives say the two men took off running from police.

Police say one of the men was caught quickly, but the other proved more elusive. Police set up a perimeter near Pitt Community College and brought in a K-9 to capture the other man. Both men were taken into custody.

Police have charged Luis Flores, 18, of Washington and Anthony Velisco, 16, of Greenville with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and resist, delay and obstruct an officer.

According to police, one of the teens was wearing a shirt with a gang name on it, while the other had a tattoo representing the same gang. Both are in the Pitt County Detention Center on $3,000 secured bond.

hey obama o8 for prez, You can thank your own culture for people calling them Thugs. The word originated in the black culture and unfortunatly most people, black and white dont even know where the word comes from. If you want to eliminate it, start with your own people.

Posted by: CS on Jul 5, 2008 at 06:34 PM
Things like this is why I am scared of going to Greenville alone with my two little girls. People that do things like this should be punished. Not just put in jail and placed on a $3,000 secured bond because they can get out and do it again but could hurt someone the next time.

Those days of leaving your cars and homes unlocked are way over. No matter how you raise your kids, what they do when their parents aren't looking is shocking. I know because I teach. You wouldn't believe how many parents have said ,"not my child, we go to church ever Sunday, someone else must have done it." After a certain age you are responsible for your actions. They have been caught and now they will know what it feels like in jail. To tell if they are smart we must wait and see if the mess up again. I've known guys in prison and not one of them avoided being raped. So Ashley, if they are the good friend you so claim, then warn them, prison isn't easy! The way you get what you want without stealing is working. I can't recall anyone ever going to prison for working a legitimate job.

They are Both punks and no good low life. Let them go and met BIG Bubba

Someone help me out and tell me when did the word 'criminal' be replaced with thug? All I read is thug this, and thug that. It might have something to do with me being black, and black people associate thug with a young black man that says in stay in trouble but hasn't be arrested "YET" he gets the reputation of being a thug and that like a medal and honor, a "CRIMINAL" is a person that has been arrested and found guilty of a crime. I don't think a lot of white people know the difference. So I'm helping some of you out a little bit. So by calling these guys thugs, you are really helping their reputations. Hey you call them what you want. If someone robs or steals from me, you can call them two things....lucky, and a criminal. I am all for the 2nd amendment!

Posted by: mitchell on Jul 4, 2008 at 08:51 PM
ashley - wake up! We don't care about how good they are as friends. Obviously, your life is a little messed up, if you call people like this friends.

Posted by: Gary on Jul 4, 2008 at 10:15 AM
Ashley, They wont be able to be there for you while in jail.I understand you care for them obviously, but this life they are living is not good and deep down inside you know this.

Posted by: Ashley on Jul 3, 2008 at 07:54 PM
Yea that spray paint work is nice. But I am not gonna sit here any longer talking about them and tryna explain stuff to you guys. People say they know them, but obviously they didn't know the true them. So they get in trouble AND? And there parents can't make all of there decisions for them. Kids are going to do what ever they want to whenever they want to. And they are really good friends if I needed them they would be here for me just like I am for them.

Posted by: ANGEL on Jul 3, 2008 at 06:27 PM
WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO LOCK OUR DOORS JUST TO SHOP?? IF THEIR PARENTS WOULD HAVE RAISED THEM RIGHT THEY WOULDNT BE WHERE THERE AT NOW HUH?? ITS CHILDISH & STUPID YOU CAN TELL THEIR STILL IMMATURE BREAKIN INTO SOMEBODY'S CAR HAHA THEY SHOULD STAY IN JAIL THATS WHERE THEY BELONG STUPID FOOLS....THEY AINT NOTHIN BUT LOW LIFES GET A JOB!!!

Posted by: getreal on Jul 3, 2008 at 02:53 PM
$3000 bond? are you kidding? I know both of these punks and they both have long criminal records and need to be put away instead of a slap on the wrist check out some of their handy spray paint work up and down Hwy 43

Posted by: Gary on Jul 3, 2008 at 01:37 PM
Ashley, Eventually everyone DOES get caught. Good friends you got there too.The thing is thugs are ignorant, Id be willing to bet not one of those two read about the pizza guy shooting one of three THUGS trying to rob him, If they even can read.

Posted by: Ashley on Jul 3, 2008 at 11:10 AM
How is that a punk? Lock your doors if you don't want no one in them. And I don't need muh head checked the are muh friends and they are not as bad as you people are making them out to be. So they do some things they shouldn't do...everybody does. Just everybody don't get caught. Thats the only difference between them and everybody else in Greenville.

Posted by: realisitc on Jul 3, 2008 at 07:58 AM
What???? Breaking into a car in broad daylight and they are not bad. I guess just stupid. They were both in my school at one time and let me tell you that this is no surprise. For what it is worth it doesn't matter what gang affiliation that they have. Wrong is wrong--Ashley--look around. If you can't beat them join them??? I hope for you that you really don't mean that. If so prepare for a terrible end.

Posted by: MADDOG on Jul 3, 2008 at 07:51 AM
Ashley,,,,go get your head checked. How can you do something like this and not be a bad person. When you do something like this ,,,it makes you a punk. Glad it was not my car.

Posted by: Mike on Jul 3, 2008 at 06:47 AM
If it had been my car Anthony's Mom would be mourning his death. Shoot first, ask questions later!

Posted by: Ashley on Jul 2, 2008 at 10:09 PM
I like how all of you got bad things to say and don't even know these two. and lesly luis is defenitly not a bad person...and anthony really isn't either. and i think there family's did a really good job raising them. They sure ain't no punks. And I say if you can't beat them join them. And they are not no MS13 so get ur facts straight that's how rumors start. And Mrs. Jodie Goodluck! I hope all is well.

MOM where were you when he was out causing trouble? I want to see his pic so I know what he looks like so i can keep my family safe. If you had done a beeter job he would not be where he is today so get over yourself

Posted by: MADDOG on Jul 2, 2008 at 02:50 PM
To Anthony"s Mother,If your sweet did the crime ,then they need to show his picture on here,on T.V,and hang pictures of him all over town.If and I say If he did this ,then I pray he gos to prison and maybe him and BIG Buddle can go to WAL-MART together.Know what I mean.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 2, 2008 at 01:41 PM
to Josie, Anthony's mother. Why not show his picture --we need to know what the people look like. If you are caught with your hand in the cookie jar-then you are guilty of taking cookies--so what was your son doing in some other man's car?

Secondly, whenever we find that a system is not working we have to make changes. For us to continue using the same system that obviously isn't working while expecting different outcomes is ignorant. We hafta change the system by attending city council meetings, keeping these subjects out on the discussion tables in all forums and not letting down for any reason. I hafta also call out the security personnel at Wal-mart. I have witnessed with my own two eyes Wal-mart security personnel driving right by a group of individuals that were hanging out in the parking lot without even stopping to see what they were doing or if they have any business hanging out in the parking lot for extended periods of time. Drop the doughnut and do your job. If it is too much for you then turn it over to someone that can/will do the job. Just mention the phrase, "Greenville Wal-mart at night" to anyone around here and watch their face and look at their reaction...that will speak for itself.

Posted by: Jesse on Jul 2, 2008 at 12:58 PM
This is all very funny to read (the stuff about the Wal-mart parking lot anyway). I've gone to Wal-mart myself multiple times after about 9pm and have experienced thugs hanging out in the parking lot, yelling and playing very loud music. Let me point out, it is not illegal to dress any certain way, like any certain kinds of music or hang out certain places. What should be stopped the lifestyle (or deathstyle rather) that comes from being in a gang and living that life. It is a dead end road any way you go and leads to jail or death. I am fairly educated about a wide variety of gangs coming from previous jobs I've had dealing w/ them. There are gangs in Greenville, there are gang members that hang out in the parking lot frequently at Wal-mart and its going to take a major initiative from law enforcement and this city's citizens to get this under control. We as citizens have got to decide that we're not going to take it anymore. We have got to keep L.E. informed w/ any details.

Posted by: Property Manager on Jul 2, 2008 at 12:49 PM
Gang activity in Greenville is a lot more common than we'd all like to think.

Posted by: To Josei on Jul 2, 2008 at 11:39 AM
It's people like Anthony who casue Greenville to have so much crime. We need to see his picture so we know who to stay away from. control your children!!!!! Keep them out of gangs.

Posted by: Josie on Jul 2, 2008 at 10:56 AM
I am Anthony's mother and I would like for you to stop showing his picture in the news and in your web page please.

Just remember it is not the Police, But the court systems that will let them little angels right back out in the streets ( and walmart). $3,000 Bond what a Joke!!!

Where are the parents, either living here illegally or back in Mexico is a good bet

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 2, 2008 at 12:44 AM
People ask "where is the parents"? They are affraid to take them down and beat the living H---- out of them because they would then here you say "they should throw those child abusing parents in jail". Get a life people, all a parent can do in life is to teach their kids right from wrong when they're young and when they get to this age the decission as to what to do lays square on their shoulders and whether they repeat these type crimes is on our shoulders. What I am saying it is time in this country to take back our country. Make the word Punishment mean something and don't let the ACLU and other bleeding heart put prisoners in Holiday Inns like enviroments. Put "Hard Labor" back into the prison system.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 2, 2008 at 12:13 AM
I hear people posting saying "where are the parents". At the age of these thugs the only parenting they need is hard time, (excuse me Mr. ACLU nice treatment in lieu of hard time.),like there use to be. I say bring back "Chain Gangs" and let put all these "Gang Bangers" in them. Due to the ACLU, slap handed judical system and bleeding heart liberals that want to blame everything these thugs do on someone else or on the victims, there is no punishment for being a criminal. Sure you may be locked up, but with TVs, weight rooms, pool rooms, access to computers, access to law libraries and others play things. They only work because they earn time toward an early release. I say we go back to "HARD TIME" for all criminals.

this is exactly why i don't shop at wal mart or any other store in greenville.I will buy my kids school uniforms online for the same price as your stores have them.

Posted by: N on Jul 1, 2008 at 07:42 PM
Make the parents show up in court with these worthless thugs - and if the parents don't care or straighten the thugs up, lock them both up! Its time that we take back our neighborhoods and communities. We never had these problems when I was growing up.

Posted by: Concerned Citizen on Jul 1, 2008 at 06:54 PM
Rebuttal ... no I did not miss my calling as an investigative reporter, but the media doesnt always include all the details in every story. They simply tell what they think the public is interested in because many times they dont have time to give all the details. I know this for a fact after several breakins in my neighborhood last year within a 2 week time frame that never made it into the newspaper or TV. I asked local newspaper editor and I was told that they did not feel that it was news worthy material because the amount of property damaged was not high enough. For the record I dont live in the hood and its a nice neighborhood thats 9 years old. Also in talking with local officers I was told that only half about 1/3 to 1/2 of the crime that is reported in greenville even makes the news or is reported in the newspapers. So dont think that crime just all of a sudden increased recently.

Posted by: To: Concerned Citizen on Jul 1, 2008 at 06:29 PM
Concerned Citizen....you ask so many questions maybe u missed your calling and should become an investigative reporter. Don't u think if the cops gave the station that info it would be included in the story? Greenville PD is not known for its forthcoming in information to the media, especially these days!!

Posted by: Concerned Citizen on Jul 1, 2008 at 06:12 PM
So what gang where they ? MS13 or another hispanic gang ? Also what time did it happen at ? Did they break the glass to get inside the car or did the owner leave the car unlocked ?

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 1, 2008 at 05:30 PM
WOW! Greenville is becoming a THUG haven.

Posted by: k on Jul 1, 2008 at 04:31 PM
thats funny i always check my car to make sure no one is hiding in it, hahaha! thats because i used to live in greenville...

Posted by: Concerned Tax Payer on Jul 1, 2008 at 04:10 PM
What is the motive for someone not to be a criminal? If you are a crimianl, you can take over an area and the law abiding tax paying citizens move to another area (until it is taken over as well). If you do commit a crime and get caught you are entitled to a court appointed atty that is paid for by the same people that moved to get away from you. If the court system actually finds you guilty and sentences you to prison you are entitled to 3 hots and a cot along with dental and medical care and an education. And if you behave real well you get time off for good behavior. Why would criminals not target WalMart? If security would gather the dvd cases and empty merchandise wrappers out of the women's restroom at WalMart and have them finger printed they may get a lead! Better yet lets start small and enforce "no parking" in the actual no parking areas. Lastly, only vechicles with the actual handicapped person inside of it, being allowed to utilize the disabled tag and parking space.

Posted by: Nana on Jul 1, 2008 at 04:07 PM
Where are the parents of these young people? We need to make parents responsible for their kids. To many kids are running wild. The churches need to get involved in their neighbor hoods.Where are the dads????

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 1, 2008 at 04:06 PM
ok..thanks for straighten me out on the chase policy...it is intersting what the cops in this city are and are not allowed to do...

I Know MADDOG,,and I know for a Fact that one night a man pulled a GUN on him and his wife about 7 years ago and he walked right up to the man(FACE TO FACE)and knocked the gun right out of the man"s hand and then beat the H--- out of 2 of them. The man is a good man but don"t mess with him.HE will not Back down and if he see anyone in trould or need help,,he is the 1st one to step in. Talk mess about him Chris but don't step to hard. You would love to have him on your side if someone was pushing you around.Never 4 get,,that man went to war and layed his life on the Line for you and the U.S.A.

Posted by: MADDOG on Jul 1, 2008 at 03:45 PM
You grow up Chris or is it Christin,,,I was in the war for 5 years. You dum ----Don't you think I had a few guns aimed on me. I still would not lay down and give up. I am a MAN and I settle things the old way. So give me a BASEBALL BAT and you keep your watergun Lady.

Posted by: Can't say on Jul 1, 2008 at 02:36 PM
It was not a vehicle chase that is why they were caught if they had ran in the vehicle it would have been "no Chase" this was a foot thing. Good job GPD officers! Bad job Chief of Police for not having officers out their patrolling like they need to be. Was that suspicious activity or was the incident report labeled correctly this time. Hello citizens shake the chiefs cage every time he doesn't do right. Does this really sound like the numbers went down? NOPE not to me, just confirms the crime stats were fudged with!

Posted by: Chris on Jul 1, 2008 at 02:32 PM
Some people need to grow up.. Maddog specifically, because you wont do any good with a baseball bat when they come at you with a gun. You sure have alot of bark, I guess thats where you get your name.

Posted by: Thankful on Jul 1, 2008 at 02:25 PM
Way to go GPD! Another good arrest and look this arrest actually made the news, where as so many of the good things y'all do don't. My only concern now is our wonderful legal system. Lock them up and throw away the key.

Posted by: sam on Jul 1, 2008 at 02:07 PM
no....the "no chase policy" appily's to vehicles only.....so if these guy's would have gotten into a car and ran, then they would have been free... oh well

Posted by: MADDOG on Jul 1, 2008 at 12:47 PM
Wal-Mart needs to hire someone who cares about other people being safe like I do.I went and diid the WAR thing for the U.S.A. so people could be free and saft. So I am DAM sure not worryed about some of the trash in GREENVILLE. All I need is a Baseball Bat,,,,48 HRS and no one will get shot and this mess will stop.

Posted by: ? on Jul 1, 2008 at 11:24 AM
Wouldn't it be great if we had another wal-mart. Is there one going up across from the new Lowe's.

Posted by: MADDOG on Jul 1, 2008 at 10:29 AM
What good is the guy that drives that little truck around the lot? RENT A COP. Give me a Baseball Bat and I will stop some of this mess.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 1, 2008 at 09:59 AM
at least these two were caught and it appears the no chase policy from the chief as been dropped, good to see

Posted by: Kay on Jul 1, 2008 at 09:48 AM
Greenville is out of control! I am shopping in Goldsboro from now on.

Posted by: Dave on Jul 1, 2008 at 07:45 AM
Just another reason not to go to WalMart. This town is going to continue on its downward spiral.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jul 1, 2008 at 07:41 AM
Maybe at 24 hour walmart is not a good idea any longer.

Posted by: Matt on Jul 1, 2008 at 07:31 AM
Considering we are looking at the property beside Goodys to put a store in- this is more than concerning. It seems to validate the fact that Walmart in Greenville is full of crime as others have told us.
