A winter storm warning is in effect today for Beaufort, Dare, mainland Hyde, Martin, Tyrrell and Washington counties. A winter storm advisory is in effect today for the rest of Eastern Carolina. The threats are snow, sleet and freezing rain.
The district attorney for seven northeastern counties has died.
Frank Parrish was district attorney for the First Prosecutorial District, which includes Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties.
The 64-year-old Parrish died suddenly on Sunday. A news release says as usual he served as a lay reader at his church on Sunday morning.
Parrish began as an assistant district attorney in 1979 and in 1994 he was elected district attorney. He ran unopposed in 1998 and 2002.
Parrish is survived by his wife and two children.
