Bethel Police say that a family dispute, assault and a possibly suicidal woman led to a multiple agency response at a home in the town.
Bethel Police say that it started around 12:20 this afternoon when they received a call for assistance at the home on James Street. Once on scene, family told officers that a woman inside the home made statements discussing ending her life. Police were told there was a hand gun in the home.
Attempts to contact the woman inside were unsuccessful.
Officials requested assistance from the Greenville Police Department’s Special Response Team to take the woman into custody. An involuntary commitment order was taken out by the woman’s family.
The woman was taken from the home without injury and taken to Vidant Medical Center for evaluation.
A standoff has ended in Bethel.
An official with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office says that the standoff ended and that it appears to have been a domestic situation of some sort.
There are no reports of any injuries.

Greenville Police say that their SWAT team was dispatched to an incident in Bethel on Sunday.
Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Friday says that the team responded to a situation but deferred to Bethel Police for more information, saying it’s their investigation.
