NEW THIS MORNING: Mariner Rescued At Sea

By  |

The Coast Guard says a 2:20 a.m. call Thursday ended with a man medically evacuated from a boat at sea.

Coast Guardsmen said they got the call from the 51-foot fishing boat, Bite Me, early Thursday morning saying a boater was having chest pains and trouble breathing.

A Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched from Elizabeth City to find the boater at sea, 35 miles northeast of the Oregon Inlet.

Crews said an EMS worker got to the 44-year-old man and together, they were hoisted up and flown to a nearby hospital.

No word on how the mariner is recovering.
