Guilty on one charge. Not guilty on another. A former Pitt County teacher accused of having sex with a student now knows her fate. The verdict in the case against Katherine Tew was handed down late Monday afternoon. Tew was found guilty of taking indecent liberties with a student and not guilty of intercourse with a student. She was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and must register as a sex offender. A judge also ordered Tew to surrender her teaching license for two years. Tew must also perform 36 hours of community service and undergo a psychological exam. Tew and her lawyers have filed an appeal.
