The family of 18-year-old Louis Manuel Valazquez-Ramierz looked on as emergency workers searched for their friend and family member, who had been missing since Saturday afternoon. The Nash County Sheriff's Department says the family discovered the teen's tennis shoes and a Wal-Mart bag along the bank of a pond off Highway N.C. 58 early Monday morning. That's when the family contacted authorities. For most of the day authorities weren't sure if Ramierz was even in the pond but decided to search anyway. The family says the teen had been drinking and was intoxicated when they last saw him. Rescue workers say they didn't expect to find the teen alive if he went in the water due to the frigid temperatures. After putting seven boats in the water to drag the pond, with the help of multiple agencies, including a Wilson County dive team, Ramierz was found just yards from the bank where authorities suspected he went in.
