Stretching Money for School Projects

Money for school building projects may not go as far as planned. That's because the cost of construction is going up. Edgecombe County voters passed a $12 million school bond 14 months ago. Administrators say they're just now about to break ground on the first projects. Rapid growth in China and Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast has pushed up the cost of construction. The schools expect to get some extra funding from the new state lottery for the next phase of construction.
