The destruction from Hurricane Ophelia last fall is effecting our waters especially the shellfish harvests in our state. Heavy contamination and increasing silt has resulted in closing hundreds of acres of shellfishing territory in Newport River near Mill Creek. Concern is growing for people who make their living harvesting oysters and clams. They feel the closed areas will eventually put them out of work.
