Greenville Utilities crews are working to find the source of the water contamination, although they believe it could be isolated to the County Home Road area.

Members from Greenville Utilities, Pitt County Emergency Management and the state met today about the fecal coliform in the water. Managers say random samples taken from that area on Monday came back positive for the bacteria.

Now all customers who receive water from GUC, will need to boil their water before consumption. Pitt County Health Director John Morrow says he doesn't advise bathing in it either.

Greenville Utilities say it will continue to test the water and try to flush the water lines on County Home Road until the tests come back negative.

I see all these Questions, but where is the answers. How, what do you do if you have been exposed to this contamination, and what are the side effect or the end results.

Did someone really ask whether we should stop watering our gardens? c'mon. The soil is teeming with bacteria, E.coli included. What the heck do you think putting manure on your garden does? Just wash your vegetables before bringing them in. Please, use your [small] brain before posting. Attention: The acid in your stomach KILLS bacterial, including a manageable quantity of E.coli!!!

I wonder what they will tell the public how the water became contaminated. Also what really may be in our water everyday? With cancer booming it makes a body wonder. Also if it is animal of human how did it get into the water lines? Just thinking out loud.

Anyone want to care to guess how much they're gonna raise our water rates over this?

I was wondering. Is it safe to bathe because when you take a hot shower your pores open and the bacteria can get into your skin.....

I doubt this will effect dogs and cats seeing as they eat their own excrement for fun

Are the levels really that much higher than what you’d find in milk that is near its expiry or in meat that is sold day-old at Food Lion? I doubt it. The human digestive tract, and specifically, the stomach, has, with its pH at below 2, the capability of taking care of a large variety and quantity of bugs. I’m doubtful that the real load (e.g. concentration) in the water represents a real threat. Would be interesting to hear how many colonies or counts are present in the samples.

I have a kitten that mysteriously developed Giardia infection although not exposed to any known source other than GUC water. I wonder how long this has been going on with monthly testing?

Greeeeaaaaattttt!!!! Now they are saying that you should not shower in it?!?! That would have been nice to know this morning. Ughh.

when will the problem be fixed because we have 3dogs and 2 cats and are very concerned about their safety and also how long has this been going on

Don't you think you are sensationalizing the story just a bit with that picture of someone drinking that nasty water? I mean, seriously, let's keep things real, shall we?

Have any of you guys took a drop of the water and looked at it under a microscope? I have and I will tell you this, watching the activity under that slide is much better than watching TV.
