Police say a man’s self-proclaimed stunt has landed him behind bars after numerous agencies responded to the Neuse River in Kinston.
48-year-old Charles Bogan is in the Lenoir County Jail after police say he jumped from the King Street Bridge around 5:30 Saturday evening. Bogan has been charged with illegal jumping from a bridge.
After landing in the water, police say that the extremely strong current carried Bogan down the river around 200 yards. A nearby Wildlife officer was contacted who found Bogan and loaded him into his boat.
Officials say that Bogan was very apologetic to law enforcement and said that he had jumped from the bridge as a stunt.
Bogan was treated at the scene before being taken into custody by Kinston Police.
Bogan is being held on a $8,000 bond.
Several agencies responded to the scene.
