The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says an autopsy shows a teenager who was found Sunday in her parent's swimming pool drowned after she had a seizure.

The mother and step father of Leah Droske found her body in their swimming pool Sunday afternoon after coming home from the beach.

The 19-year-old Droske had just moved here from Pennsylvania and had already enrolled in Pitt Community College for fall classes.

The Pitt County Medical Examiner's Office says the woman died from asphyxia caused by drowning with a contributing factor being a history of seizures.

In one of her final Facebook posts Friday, Droske described how much her family and friends mean to her and how excited she is for her new life in North Carolina, saying, "It's a new start for me and something I did on my own for me and my benefit. I took a chance and went for it. I left everything I knew for the "great unknown." And here I am now...starting school, Happy, stable, and ready to take on the world."

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent drowning of a teenager who moved to the area just three weeks ago.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Christy Wallace says it happened at a home on Holland Road in the area of Belvoir. Wallace says that the parents of 19-year-old Leah Droske had just gotten home Sunday around 3:00 p.m. from the beach and found their daughter’s body in their pool.

Investigators say it appears to be a drowning, and that the young woman had her bathing suit on.

Her family says Droske just moved here from Pennsylvania to live with her mother and stepfather to attend Pitt Community College.

In one of her final Facebook posts Friday, she describes how much her family and friends mean to her and how excited she is for her new life in North Carolina, saying, "It's a new start for me and something I did on my own for me and my benefit. I took a chance and went for it. I left everything I knew for the "great unknown." And here I am now...starting school, Happy, stable, and ready to take on the world."

Officials are looking into whether any secondary factors played a part in her death.

It’s not clear how long Droske had been in the pool, but the family last spoke to her on Saturday around 4:00 p.m.

Officials say that her mother and stepfather had been gone Saturday night and that the case is still under investigation.
