Fire units from at least two Craven County volunteer fire departments fought a fire at an assisted living center.

The call came in shortly after 11:00 a.m. to the Riverstone Assisted Living Center in River Bend.

Police say the fire began in one room of the facility, and all the patients were safely evacuated.

There are 40 patients at the center and they were taken to a nearby church that opened up.

River Bend police say firefighters are now clearing smoke from the building. There's no word on when the patients will be allowed back inside.

Greenville Utilities told me in a phone call that showering was fine as well as laundry. However all sites say no showering or washing. Who would be correct? I know if you're not sure, don't do it but how about others that have no idea what's going on. Too much misinformation--inaccurate and deceiving. Editors comment: The Health Department told us not to use the water for showering or bathing. GUC still says it's ok.
