National Guard Colonel Says Stay the Course

A top ranking military official with the North Carolina National Guard, just back from 14 months in Iraq, has plenty to say about the ongoing war and the debate. Colonel J.R. Gorham says everyday someone asks him when the U.S. is going to pull out of Iraq.

Colonel Gorham says he believes in the mission and says the task will take years. He says, "It’s going to take a whole generation before we really make a real impact in Iraq. I feel that ten-years from now we'll still be there."

Colonel Gorham has 31 years of combined service in the Army and National Guard. And he's somewhat of a history maker in our state as well. He is only one of two African Americans currently in North Carolina to hold the ranking of Colonel in the National Guard.
