A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7am on Saturday for Beaufort, Mainland Hyde, Martin, Outer Banks Dare, Tyrrell, Washington and western Dare County. The threats are black ice and slick roadways.
An estimated 63 million people will hit the roads and travel at least 50 miles for the Christmas holiday, according to AAA.
Whether they travel by bus, train, plane or in their own vehicles, the holiday rush is in full swing. Heavy delays were reported at both the Greyhound bus station and at the Amtrak station in Wilson Friday.
Flights of out area airports were pretty much on time, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol says things were running smoothly on area highways Friday.
