Packed House for Meeting About Schools in Bertie County

A packed house was the scene Monday night as over a 100 people crowded a joint meeting between the Bertie County commissioners and the Bertie County school board in Windsor.

The main issue on the table was closing three elementary schools in the county to satisfy a federal desegregation lawsuit. The proposition of closing Askewville Elementary, Aulander and J.P. Law Elementary schools, now or in the future, has citizens outraged, school board members frustrated and county commissioners trying to find a compromise.

There will be another joint meeting between commissioners and school board members in January.
