Hitting the Airwaves to Help Children

Some members of the New Bern Police Department tried their hand at radio Thursday. New Bern Police officers manned phones at country radio station WRNS, while Chief Frank Palombo took to the airwaves to help raise money for Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Located in Memphis, Tennessee, Saint Jude's is the first institution established for the sole purpose of conducting basic and clinical research into catastrophic childhood diseases, mainly cancer. To treat a child with standard risk acute lymphocytic leukemia, the first year of treatment costs about $500,000.
