The town of Nags Head is bracing for more erosion along its already tortured beaches to the south.
Local leaders aren't pinning their hopes for beach nourishment on the federal government or even Dare County.
The town has come up with a plan in case a county wide sand tax gets repealed in February.
The town's plan would use sand from deposits about a mile offshore of Nags Head and would require less nourishment than the Army Corps of Engineers plan calls for within the town limits.
