Too many birds to fly. That's the word from Navy officials after test runs for a potential Outlying Landing Field site in Hyde County were abandoned Thursday morning. Navy spokesperson Ted Brown says flight equipment detected too many birds in the flight path of a Navy Super Hornet Jet to safely make several scheduled passes. The purpose of the flights is to measure noise levels at a potential Outlying Landing field in Hyde County. The sites in Washington and Beaufort counties have met fierce opposition from many residents.
