A Dare County service that provides shelter and assistance for battered women got a much needed boost this weekend.
The Festival of Trees auction Saturday night raised $80,000 before expenses for the Outer Banks Hotline. The trees were custom decorated by local groups.
Executive director Lynn Bryant says the Outer Banks sees a big increase in domestic violence this time of year.
Some trees sold for as much as $3,000 a piece.
