Several new laws went into effect Thursday in North Carolina. One of them now bars children under the age of eight from driving all-terrain vehicles.
The ATV Safety bill was signed by Gov. Mike Easley back in August. Provisions of the law prohibit parents or guardians from knowingly allowing children under eight years old to drive them. The law also states that children between the ages of eight and 15 are limited to drive less powerful ATVs.
Helmets must also be worn by ATV riders.
