2 Women Killed In Train Accident In Charlotte

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say two women are dead after a train struck them.

Police say the accident occurred early Sunday morning in the 8500 block of Monroe Road when a CSX train traveling from Hamlet to Bostic struck the women.

They say the engineer thought he saw a person sleeping on the tracks so he put the train in an emergency stop, then sounded its horn and bell.

After the train had come to a stop, police say two women were located on the tracks under the train. Neither had any identification.

Both victims are described as white women. Police believe one was 20 to 25 years old, and the other was 25 to 30 years old.
