UPDATE: 2 Craven County Men Charged With 40+ Home Break Ins

One of two men arrested for dozens of home break-ins in Craven County was in court Friday morning. Police say they broke into 47 homes and stole jewelry and they were so neat and clean about the crimes, many people had no idea they were victims until weeks after.

Gregory Hamilton had his first appearance at the Craven County courthouse Friday morning. He and Calvin Dawson were each charged with more than 40 counts of felony breaking and entering and felony larceny. Investigators say Hamilton walked into dozens of homes in Trent Woods, New Bern and other parts of Craven County. They say many of the homes were unlocked and they stole gold jewelry. Detectives say Dawson drove the get away car and helped Hamilton pawn the gold off.

Linda Morris was a victim.
"Every time I'm in there brushing my teeth in my bathroom I'm thinking its hard to believe that someone was actually there in my home. How did he find out where I kept my jewelry? I don't keep it in an actual jewelry box and it does give you a very strange feeling. It makes you feel that your privacy has been compromised," said Morris.

Morris says she didn't realize she was robbed until she went looking for a particular necklace. She then realized 12 - 15 pieces of her jewelry were missing. Investigators were able to recover some of the jewelry, but none of Morris' yet. She has since installed a security system.

Dawson turned himself in Friday afternoon and was released on a $250,000 unsecured bond. Hamilton's next court appearance is set for April 3rd.
