More new jobs... That's the announcement coming out of Lenoir County Monday. The Unifi plant, once owned by Dupont, as Dupont makes the announcement about a new project beginning there.
Dupont has maintained a presence at their old Kinston site since they sold it over a year ago, using less than 40 employees. Now Dupont is announcing the production of a new polymer there that is being used to produce things like carpet and clothing.
Company officials say the first phase of this project will add over 30 employees over the next year and another 30 the following year. Officials say once the project is at full capacity, there should be over a hundred employees in all.
The polymer currently being made is made from chemicals. But it will soon be made from corn, which will make the production more environmentally friendly.
