Some people who evacuated from the Hyde County wildfire last week are now returning home.
That news comes as word of more mandatory evacuations for the Waterway landing and upper New Lake Road area.
Mike Noles runs Conman's, a shop just northwest of Lake Phelps. He closed down his shop and took his horses out of danger before bringing them back home Monday. Noles says, "Our animals are back, but we're still in a state of readiness if they tell us it's time to go, then 15-20 minutes, we can be outta here."
Forestry officials say the fire is now the largest wildfire in the United States.
