A Jones County high school teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student has entered a plea.

The Clerk of Court office says the plea was "no contest." A no contest plea means the defendant does not refute or admit guilt to the charges.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 28.

Shebana Rajput is charged with 8 counts of sexual activity with a student and one count of sex offense with a student.

Lenoir County deputies say the 9 sex acts occurred at the teacher's home on Aaron Johnson Lane in Kinston between March and May of 2008.

The 35-year-old Rajput was a teacher at Jones Senior High School, where the 17-year-old boy was a student.

The sheriff's office says Rajput, who taught physical science, resigned in May 2008.

After her arrest, Rajput was put in the Lenoir County jail on a $100,000 bond.
