An employee of the Craven County Sheriff's Department, who was moonlighting as a delivery person for Pizza Hut was the victim of an armed robbery Wednesday night according to New Bern police. Police say Lanny Becton of Trent Court Apartments in New Bern and Randall Canady of Cove City flagged the victim down, took the pizza and as the victim went to get back in his vehicle, one of the suspects pulled a handgun and demanded an undisclosed amount of money. The driver handed over the money and then the robbers demanded his wallet according to police. Investigators say at that point, the suspects pulled out the victim's sheriff's department identification and fled on foot. The suspects were arrested and charged less than an hour after the incident and charged with one count armed robbery each.
