Governor Mike Easley has announced a plan to raise teacher pay above the national average by 2008. Luckily, educators won't have to wait that long to begin seeing the results. According to the governor's office, this year teachers received an average increase of 2.25 percent. The governor now says teachers will also see an increase of $750 paid out over a year beginning next month, along with a five percent increase each year until 2008. Currently North Carolina ranks 23rd in the nation for teacher pay.
