A bus driver is being called a hero after ushering 40 students to safety after the bus was crushed from behind by a pickup truck and then burst into flames. On Monday Perquimans County school bus number 102 was hit from behind by a pickup truck as the bus was stopped on Highway 17 near Hertford. The Highway Patrol says the bus burst into flames because of diesel fuel. School officials say bus driver, Zita Ferebee, is a major reason why many students suffered only minor injuries. The four men in the pickup truck that hit the bus died on impact. The driver, 25-year-old Reuben Fajardo, suffered a broken leg. He is charged with four counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and one count of failing to reduce speed.
