Charred, crumpled and crushed. That's how a Perquiman's school bus looked Monday morning after a pick up truck plowed into the back of it and both vehicles burst into flames. Four men inside the pick up died on impact. Only the driver survived. All 40 school children were taken to the hospital to be checked out. State Highway Patrol says the truck carrying five construction workers from Wilson slammed into the back of the school bus as it was picking up a student along Highway 17 near the town of Hertford. Officials say all of the students and the driver were off the bus when it ignited. School officials say they will conduct an internal investigation of the crash. Troopers say charges will likely be filed against the driver. The names of the men who died in the accident have not been released.
