Taking the No Smoking Policy One Step Further

Pitt County Memorial Hospital officials say they are taking the next step and will now ban all tobacco products, both inside and outside, on all of their medical campuses throughout Eastern North Carolina. Smoking inside the hospital has been banned since 1986, but smokers who wanted to light up have been able to do so outside in the parking lot or in specifically designated smoking areas. Pitt County Memorial Hospital President Deborah Davis says the hospital isn't telling people not to smoke, but this ban is the right thing for health care organization to do. The ban on all tobacco products will start May 31 on "World No Tobacco Day."
