Congress may pass a bed bug bill, and one local representative is itching to get the word out. Seriously.

Congressman G.K. Butterfield is sponsoring the "Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite Act of 2008".

In a news release Bufferfield, a 1st district Democrat from Wilson, says fifty years after being virtually eliminated, bed bugs are back all across the country.

His bill will grant states money to establish inspection, prevention and eradication programs. To qualify for the funds, states must require the inspection of at least 20% of all of its hotel rooms.

Butterfield says eliminating the troublesome bugs from hotels is important because they can lead to home infestation.

No word yet whether the entire congress will get in bed with Butterfield on this or not.

Don't leave this to the govenment, they mess up everything they get their hands on from childcare/protection to Social Security (people getting hundreds when they should be getting thousands if the money was handled by the private sector). Pest Control Professionals already have too much interference from the government, don't give them more.

Inspections should be made, but not at the expense of the taxpayor. A law should be passed requiring inspections and treatment, at the cost of the owner, and fines imposed if the law isn't followed. I'm not from the area, but this guy sounds like he's from the donkey party.

Hey congress, Fido and Fluffy need a flea and tick bill. The cockroaches and spiders are getting jealous. Why do bed bugs get all the attention? Has a congressman had an affair in a sleazy motel and got bit?
