Rain Departing: 1 to 3+ Inches Overnight

The storm system that brought the heavy rains Thursday night will move northward towards the Virginia coast by midday Friday. As the storm leaves the area the rains will come to an end from mid to late morning.

The system will continue to push north Friday morning with the rain ending by noon. Sunshine may return briefly in the afternoon.

Winds will continue to gust to 30+ mph at times through the day Friday. A wind advisory is in effect for the Outer Banks Dare and Hyde counties through 6:00 pm Friday.

The strong winds along with the high tide have caused the ocean to overwash highway 12 near Rodanthe. The road is closed as of 7:00 am Friday. As the winds turn to the northwest, the water levels will fall by late morning.
