The governor has requested Onslow County be added as a disaster area because of last Sunday's tornado damage.

Governor Mike Easley says if approved, those in neighboring Jones County with storm damage will also be eligible for low-interest SBA loans to help with repairs.

Earlier in the week the governor asked that Bertie County be given a disaster declaration as well.

In Onslow County, 16 homes and 10 businesses suffered major damage and were not insured. In Bertie County, survey teams found that 30 homes which were destroyed or suffered major damage were not covered by insurance.

A total of 12 people were injured in the different tornadoes that struck the two counties.
