NC Community Colleges To Ban Illegals Save Email Print

The battle over illegal immigrants attending North Carolina's community colleges took a dramatic turn Tuesday.

The North Carolina Community College System says based on an Attorney General's decision, it will no longer admit those classified as illegal or undocumented immigrants into curriculum degree programs.

The change takes effect immediately.

A news release say the AG opinion places no restriction on high school students taking any community college classes or on any adult who seeks non-college level courses which include GED, Adult High School, ESL, and continuing education classes.

Last week Governor Mike Easley said he supported allowing illegal immigrants to attend community colleges saying federal law wasn't clear.

I agree with DAVIS from Washington 110%~!! Either become an American citizen and pay taxes or go home. I'm sick of it too. My kids took 6 years of Spanish in elementary school--NOT by choice either~!! I say move the darn White House to the Texas boarder. I bet the boarder patrol will pick up then.....

Let's have a show of hands how many Americans are sick and tired of illegals whining about amnesty,demanding the perks of citizenship and having the audacity to parade around in numbers waving Mexican flags in our country. How about the liberals who cry about needing their cheap work force of illegals and the politicians selling us out on immigration issues for a few lousy votes from immigrants and special interest groups. Your country has literally been invaded and the sovereignty of this nation is at stake. Go to walmart in Washington on a weekend and look around if you doubt what I'm saying. Go to your local post office and see if there aren't Hispanics sending money home on jobs their not paying taxes on. How exactly does this help our economy? The idea of my children being forced to learn Spanish in school and my tax dollars paying for bilingual teachers etc. absolutly infuriates me.

Concerning the last post from Anonymous,about "you American being blind",his key phrase that tells tons about him is his use of "you Americans"...I assume he or she is NOT an American so they don't really care about this country except for the benefits they can steal....I am sick of being ripped off by illegals...if only some of our government officials would get some backbone and send them all back home where they belong...and don't whine about how necessary they are...when you see them standing in line with Food Stamps and having babies and getting WIC,they ARE ripping us all off....If we don't stick together and get them all gone,this country will go downhill fast....

PLEASE STOP BLAMING THE ILLEGALS FOR OUR GOVERNMENTS FAILURE. We are americans and if you are proud to be an american then dig deeper and see the root of the problem instead of trying to put blame on someone. JL..if you look closer or better yet, go to the social services dept. and see for yourself it is the americans who go in and apply for food stamps and free housing etc, not the illegals. Illegals may be in there to get medical help for their AMERICAN children, so really we are caring for the americans with our tax dollars. I can assure you that illegals will not be given a free ride, unlike some of the americans who can draw a check because they have 3 children and do not know who their babys daddy is, but yet they leave in a Lincoln Navigator and pay for food with a card and eat better than most working americans. As far as sending money,maybe we as americans could learn from the hispanics about family values and how important family is and not how can we keep up w/the Jones'

I know some Mexicans who are illegal and here is what they tell me.They know how to beat the system before they ever cross that nice new fence ( which we paid for) at the border.For $200.they can have a NC drivers license and social security card over night. Lets talk about the truck load of paper that was stolen from Charlotte(truck and all)that carried the special paper needed to print these documents.And we will let them go to our commuity college and learn English for FREE.They claim children who don't even live with them.Yes they use these social security cards but what about the money they are paid under the table-no taxes on this.The numbers are good numbers but they are someone else's name--so cares if you use the wrong name. I know one who used 7 different names-had 7 different adresses and 7 different mail boxes. Yet we bend over backwards to help these poor people.

I think not,stop saying that you are paying for everybody that is illegal "MR Mother Teresa" they work their behinds every day even on weekends when most of everybody else is home relaxing, and one more thing, when you see 25 30 people living in a single wide trailer, If i would take a guess they must be your neighbors right? oohh well take picture and send it to guiness world of records that is quite an imagination you got there.

Just because we love our country and want to protect our money, citizens and way of life, doesnt mean we are racists, or "hillbilly haters." Our country can not keep giving away milions of dollars of foreign aid to Mexico, and having an average of 25 billion dollars a year sent to Mexico every year by illegal aliens. When you see them driving around in new SUV's it is enough to make any American citizen frustrated. After all, it is OUR money that is paying for it. Most of these people dont like America in the first place. They only want our money. They want to live here and steal our benefits, but remain loyal to their own country. All of the illegal aliens in this country sound like a broken record. "We just want a better life". "We are doing jobs that Americans wont do". "We are all Gods children". "We are not criminals". Well, I have news for you all. Everybody wants a better life. Donald Trump and Bill Gates want better lives, btu since when is wanting a better life an excuse to trash a nation? Secondly, there is no such thing as a job an American wont do. Illegal aliens are simply doing these jobs for a price that an American can not afford to do them for. Americans have no desire to live 25-30 in a single-wide trailor on a farmers property somewhere. Third, we are all Gods children, so where you live doesnt change that. You people that want to defend all of these criminals that are here illegally are twisted. Illegal aliens cost this country 10 times more than they benefit us. When it comes to my tax dollars being spent to give away things such as government subsidized housing, free in-state tuition, medical, dental, spanish speaking teachers and translators, rising insurance rates to cover illegal aliens who want to drive drunk with no license or insurance, I have absolutely no tolerance. This country was formed by immigrants, but they were LEGAL immigrants, not ILLEGAL ALIENS. Our forefathers and ancestors fought and died to get this country to be the top nation in the world, and look what is happening now. We're giving our tax dollars away to a bunch or criminals who have no respect for our country or our laws. If you are not a legal resident or citizen, you should have absolutely no rights in this country whatsoever. This is a nation of laws. If you dont like it, leave. We dont want you here.

Dear Hope, I've been a taxpayer since I was 17, so I get your frustration. But, illegal immigrants are not to blame for why our tax $ isnt getting us very much. Blame the DC politicians w/their pork barrell spending mismanagement. I also know about freedoms and sacrifices, because I married a US Marine (a white guy from Biloxi). Well, he went to Iraq Afghanistan and came back w/a drinking problem. After 2 DUI arrests, he was kicked out we nearly lost our home. He squandered his opportunity. In contrast, my dad who came here illegally, made the most of what God gave him. He worked as a "bracero" in the fields. Plz google this to get an idea of what my dad had to endure (we were never on welfare or any of that crap). After 35 years as a welder, my dad literally broke his back, & also had eye damage internal pollution from all the contamination at the plant. For that, he got a 15k settlement and shown the door. Yet he managed to raise a Harvard educated doctor, 2 policemen, & a teacher.

Marlee, Take a deep breath, hold it now, count to 10, then breath out. There now, don't you feel better? Individuals of ALL races, colors, & creeds dislike being referred to as "YOU PEOPLE". We are all American people and this is a great country to live in. You & your family enjoy privileges & freedoms in this land that others can only dream about. Our soldiers have given their life blood defending these rights. Those wanting to come here to join us should become legal citizens, & there is a process. Our tax dollars SIMPLY CAN NOT continue to support those not paying into the system (not referring to sales taxes). I personally can't withstand anymore taxes taken out of my pay check. Every country in the world has the ability to develop a democratic form of government. We need GREAT leaders in this country that can better manage our resources. Then we will be in a better position to assist others. We need to fix our internal problems first.

I am referring to those who will not become legal, those who would rather mooch off the system then do the paper work to become legal. If I were to go to Mexico the citizens there would feel the same about me, if I was there illegally. You need to sit back and UNDERSTAND what all these post are about. It is not HATE for hispanics, its dislike for illegal immigrants who come here and get all the benefits without paying a penny in taxes or anything else. That is what we are frustrated about. I'm just about half sick of people up here trying to defend "illegal immigrants". There is no excuse whatsoever for them to be here, other than they are running from something. If their country is that pitiful that they feel the need to come here and take away from us, then they need to stand up against their government, not ours. My daughter plays soccer and has for the past 6 years, this is the first year that she felt out of place on her team. It was 75% hispanic and come to find out, all if the hispanic kids were given a lesser price to pay because of their race. Needless to say I was infuriated. Then to see the majority of them driving to the practice field in brand new SUV's, wearing nambrand clothes and shoes, it really ticked me off. My husband and I work hard to take care of our children and our home. This country hasnt been fair to the Americans that live here, but have given so much to the illegals that come here.

I can't believe we've all actually been sitting around scratching our heads wondering whether or not we should ban a certain group of people that willingly take part in ILLEGAL activity. The part of illegal immigrant that says ILLEGAL should not be treated any differently than someone else doing something illegal such as selling drugs. ILLEGAL is illegal and we should not be rewarding that kind of behavior by granting these people access to even more gov't funded activities such as school. There is a right way (often known as legal) to gain citizenship and a wrong (often known as ILLEGAL) way to unlawfully enter a country without permission. I think if we didn't make exceptions for certain crimes (such as illegal immigration) our country would be a lot better off as a whole.

Maria; Wake up, you may pay taxes, be a great parent, love god, and do everything else great; but ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL. What part of that don't you understand. If you come into our country in the Millons (at least 12M), don't expect open arms from the legal US citizens who have followed our laws, paid our taxes and even allowed thousands of illegals to gain social benefits that many legal citizens are denied.

Thats their problem they judge every vary the same when they know thats not fair,on every race or nationatilly is a little bit of every thing, they can not refer to illegals like mexicans there is illegal people from every where here in the country not just from mexico,but you know what?? I'm sorry but if you illegal, then you need to leave. I work hard everyday for my money and I get sick and tired of the "illegals" not having to pay. How is that fair? It's not, not by far. They drive these expensive vehicles and have nice clothing, etc. If you want to be legal, then do the correct paperwork, but if not, go back to Mexico or wherever it is you are from. I pay my debt to the community, why shouldn't they??? They get free health care and this that and the other and it's not fair to those of us who might not have insurance and we have to pay full price. They come here to have babies so their babies are granted American citizenship and that's a bunch of bull. If the parents are "illegals" then those babies should be to!!! I don't think they should be allowed to attend our colleges. Our tax dollars go towards that I'm not paying for an "illegal" to get a FREE ride. I'm paying my way througyh school with loans and everything else. That money should go to an American.

Mother of 3....LOW LIFE ILLEGALS.....How about all the LOW LIFE AMERICANS who draw a check each month because..."I aint working in no field in da heat, much less work for $6/hr. I want at least $10/hr to work, and dont call me if its raining, cause I aint working. DONT BLAME THE ILLEGALS for the system. The majority of illegals come here to work what ever kind of job they can find to support their family here, because our AMERICANS can just get food stamps, a check, school paid for, daycare services for free, rent free, lights free, should I go on. Like yourself I work (48HRS/WK), but you do not see me driving a Lincoln Navigator paying for food with a food stamp card. We need to fix our own front porch before we try fixing everyone elses and stop blaming the ILLEGALS for everything. The USA is looking for someone or something to blame for its economical failure. The gov't is to blame not the illegals, because they make it too easy not to work.

To Jayne in Kinston.... You may want to keep paying for these low life ILLEGAL people if you want but I would rather not. I agree with Kim from Kenansville. If they are ILLEGAL Jayne they do not need to be here AT ALL. As for us you say lasy Americans, you can call yourself lazy if you please but I for one am not lazy. I work my 40 every week and therefore I am qualified to speak my peace about all of the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS that are in MY country mooching off of the system that I pay into.

The key word here folks is "ILLEGAL". I don't give a rats behind what nationality you are or what color your skin is, if you are NOT "LEGAL", then you have NO business in our community colleges, job market, public school system, grocery store, our good old United States of America, etc. Get LEGAL or take a hike back to where ever the Good Lord sent you to start with. AND several of you are bashing others for making comments about this and then turning around and calling us "lazy Americans". Seems to me name calling is name calling. AND in your eyes, I might just be a "lazy American", BUT at least I can say I AM LEGAL I was born here~!! I have to stand in line at the post office every single Friday afternoon because the Mexican folks are purchasing money orders to send tax free money back to Mexico to their families. The hate you have for your brother and sisters is why our world is in the shape it is in today, not the hispanics or illegals. As for wilson, if your daughter is in college, maybe your daughter did not register in time and that is why she did not get in a class, and if she is in the public schools then they should get into the classes they need next semester. May I ask, how do you know these 5 kids were illegal immigrants? Just because they are hispanic does not mean they are illegals. To Chris, I do not see any Americans breaking down the doors to the farmers who need help in picking the bell peppers, sweet potatoes, and cucumbers we all eat. Our lazy "A" americans rather sit on their behinds and draw a check instead of working. The gov't makes it too easy not to.

We may not be able to round up all of the illegal immigrants that are currently in the US but at least now they want be over-crowding our schools. My daughter wasn't allowed into some of here classes because they were full... over 5 illegal immigrants were allowed in the class, but thankfully not anymore.

To Mother of 3, look here, hispanics are not the only gangs you see in the US. And not the majority either. There are just as many black gangs, so what are you going to say, go back to Africa, come on. Really no one has the right to be here, those people way before us stole this land from the indians. And all hispanics are not just going and getting hand outs. Yes some of them are lazy, but there are plenty of them that are hard workers. That goes for all races. You got your lazy whites, blacks, etc. and you got the ones who work their butts off to put food on the table and fight to keep their bills paid. So why don't you pay a little closer attention to who's holding those American Flag cards at the grocery store and in line at the social services getting medicaid. And no not all people abuse these programs that are made to help people who cannot afford groceries or insurance, but plenty of them do.Just look a little closer next time,before saying its just hispanics,mother.

To ALL illegals, you have brought our economy down, you have brought your gangs here, you have taken the summer jobs (that when I was a kids) kids did to earn money for school clothes, etc. The school my kids go to is 75% hispanic. yes 75%!!!! There are several ESL classes because your kids do not speak English, but then again neither do you. I realize that some of the hispanic people here are not illegal, and yes some do work and pay taxes, yet you have all of these that sit on the street corners, with their gang colors and hurt our kids, and adults at times. You have several that sit at DSS and the Health Dept. for FREE handouts that WE tax payers are funding with our hard earned tax dollars. What YOU (ILLEGAL PEOPLE) need to do is leave OUR country and go HOME to your own country. WE DO NOT WANT YOU HERE ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Not providing a college education should be just the beginning. I agree that it should not be so difficult to get temporary visas; however, many get them, never apply for citizenship and then disappear under the "radar" and stay. Life is hard in their homelands, yes, but it isn't always easy here. Illegals that have children here cause the cost of healthcare to increase and the cost of education(via taxes) because there is no way to track them to force them to pay a debt, and the school systems are required to make sure they eat for free 2 meals a day, and provide for all their educational needs. Yes, many illegals contribute, but there are many, many more that take away from our society. Living illegally in any country should keep you from receiving any public services that are provided for citizens.

I am disappointed that a comment that I sent last night has not been posted. It appears to me that you are primarily posting the comments that are against helping the immigrants and that you are showing a bias. I think that we need to do what we can to help these hard working folks get work visas. They would be happy to pay taxes and contribute if we gave them a way to do it. We have made it nearly impossible to come here legally. I think we need to remember that we all have decended from people coming here for a better way of life.

If only our Federal government would get the drift and send All illegals back where they belong...I agree,boycott businesses that employ illegals (and the majority of them are), at least that is a start....They are draining this country of its lifeblood and most Americans are just standing around complaining and not doing anything....Help send them home....for the hardworking ones,get yourself legal!! A friend of mine married an American and went thru a lot of paperwork but she was determined to be a citizen and now she is and she has no use for all these illegals either.....Let them go to college in Mexico..

It's about time some one stood up to the liberals and set a precedent for these illegals. Looking at some of the comments from the Hispanic community, they don't like it, TOUGH!! If you came here legally you deserve every opportunity to grow and prosper, if not, back to Mexico or wherever you came from. I have worked from the time I was 7 years old, starting in tobacco fields in the 1950's when it really was work. If you want to come to the U.S. do it legally as my ancestors did and I will defend your rights as I would any other legal U.S. immigrant. Don't degrade my country that I fought for. Learn English because I don't press 2 and don't support it. Quit crying and get it right. To respond to GOOD and BAD in Clinton: We survived long before this through hard work and sweat and we will continue to survive despite the liberals in the gov't trying to tax us to death and send our jobs overseas to foreign sweat shops. Carry your butt back to Mexico if you love it so much and work there!!!

good&bad every race: If you were to slip into Mexico as an illegal and were caught you go to jail. You would be tried (sooner or later) and deported. Should you arrive as a legal, Mexico would know every step you make, you would not be able to serve in the military, police, fire dept., or hold any pub job. You would also have to show that you would be an asset to Mexico. I had experinces with your police, they are corrupt. I have no hate for Mexico and its people, as a matter of fact when I was in Mexico I really enjoyed. I drove thru mexico, was not at any tourest resort. Met many of Mexicos citizens.

I agree with the person saying that all who come into the country are not criminals or drug addicts....but as a tax paying citizen that has to pay for health insurance, my daughter;s college loans, and have our government rob me of taxes, i am upset that we continually have to support illegals, and also citizens that do sit on their butts, collecting checks on our account!! If countries would support their own citizens, as well as support health care and education, we wouldn't have so many fleeing...such as cubans, mexicans and others world wide. Those who are here illegal should not be able to participate in ANY programs of any sort- degree or no degree. They should never have been here in the first place & when it is found out that they are indeed here illegally they should be deported with no further option to come here legally. It is absurd that there is even a debate regarding this- how can anyone that is a U.S. citizen or legal immigrant that has went through the proper channels to get here think that this is acceptable? The country is full of illegal immigrants, it is time to close off the Mexican/U.S. border and stop all immigration period. Bottom line the country is full-we dont need any more people, especially illegal ones. Our current resident citizens will populate our country & keep it going just fine. It is time for us real Americans to put our foot down and stop all of this accomodating to Mexico & the rest of the world to a lesser extent and concentrate on this country for a change.

I fully agree with the state. If the immigrants are here illegally, they should not be able to attend college. If they are not legal, send them home. I have no problem with anyone getting an education, but when they are not supposed to be in this country anyway, why should the tax money of NC residents provide a education for them. I thought to get into to college you had to provide a certified high school transcript and supply the college with a social security number to enroll; atleast the college I attend did. If you want a college degree, become a legal citizen!

I am positive I speak for many citizens when I say "Thank You" to the AG's office for their comments against illegals...its a shame our Governor just doesn't get it...but he isn't running for any office again either...I hope a lot of people remember his views supporting illegals when he does decide to run for another office...I am sick & tired of employers who employ them and the agencies who give them benefits...and I know for a fact that they do get free government benefits when they come over here & have children...I've seen it myself...but if all legal Americans would stick together and let our representatives in government know how we feel,then maybe we can do something about this cancer on our society.....individuals can make a difference...do not support businesses who employ illegals,and if you have any doubt about them,they likely are illegals....Do something,let's not just talk about the problem..we each can make a difference!!

I am thrilled with the good news of another important step in the process of taking our country back for Americans as opposed to everyone who happens to decide to come here illegally and take up residence. Hopefully, the State Legislature will continue to introduce and pass bills that will make it even more difficult for illegal aliens to make their way in this state. It is obvious that the Federal Government has no intention of doing anything about the problem of illegal immigration, which has grown like a cancer throughout the USA. Therefore one town, one county, one state at a time must take it upon themselves to fix the problems through their own legislations. My sincere thanks the the legislators who saw the wisdom in this move.

I mean find it appauling that when some one sneaks here illegally and demands the same benefits we pay taxes for. Good. Politicians should not be supporting people who break the law, federal or otherwise, no matter how much political or financial value they may have. They need to quit looking for convenient loopholes or excuses to get around the law. Next I hope they'll find real courage and suspend/revoke the licenses of businesses that hire illegals.
