Now you have yet another reason to be fired up about high gas prices. North Carolina has the third highest gas price in the United States! Triple A says the average price per gallon in our state is $3.07. The only U.S. sites higher are the District of Columbia at $3.14 and Hawaii at $3.24 a gallon. Triple A says regular unleaded in Asheville is the highest in North Carolina at $3.19 a gallon. So why is our state so high? Part of it is because of North Carolina's gas tax.
