Wilson police have arrested a man and charged him with impersonating a police officer and claim he tried to save money by flashing a badge. Police arrested 19-year-old Matthew Randolph Williams. According to authorities, the investigation began when Williams tried to pay for gas at a Wilson gas station. Police say his credit card was denied, and he showed a Greenville police badge to the clerk and told her he would be back to pay in a few minutes, but never returned. Authorities say Williams also tried to rent property and buy a vehicle in Wilson, also posing as an undercover officer. The Greenville Police Department says they are investigating whether the badge was stolen from their department.
