It was golf and so much more this weekend, as Camp Lejeune and Jacksonville rolled out the red carpet for the stars, at the 2nd Marine Corps Celebrity Invitational.
The celebrity tournament at the Scarlet Course at Paradise Point went to a sudden death playoff again this year, and hockey great Pierre LaRouche beat tennis superstar Ivan Lendl for the title. But, the event is so much more than just golf for the dozens of sports and entertainment stars who take part. Meeting the marines, veterans of the war on terror, and their families makes this a very special time.
Off the course, the celebrities from soap star Cameron Mathison to USA hockey's miracle on ice star Mike Eruzione signed autographs and met the troops Saturday night at a special family night at Lejeune. And others, including t-v's Maury Povich and baseball great Scott Sanderson went to Naval Hospital, to say thanks to the doctors, nurses and patients there.
