One of the hardest hit areas in Pamlico County is Hobucken and low lying land in the area. We traveled down Highway 304 Thursday afternoon going into Hobucken. In anticipation of the storm, many residents parked their cars at the base of the bridge to keep them high and dry. Several residents said they were able to make it to their homes, but most folks living in low lying areas were unable to reach their homes due to the high water. County commissioners are surveying the area. In Oriental Thursday afternoon, we spoke to business owners who said this flooding was not as bad as Hurricane Isabel two years ago. The area most affected appeared to be homes and businesses closest to the marina near the bridge.
