Students at East Carolina University paid their respects to fallen Native Americans with a silent flag memorial Wednesday. The memorial, which is part of Native American Heritage Month, pays tribute to the thousands of Native Americans who were forced to walk the "Trail of Tears" and perished along the way. The memorial Wednesday honored the five tribes involved in the Cherokee Indian Nation, which was formed in our state thousands of years ago.
