The Carteret County Board of Elections is taking no chances on Election Day 2005. Last year over 4,000 votes were lost due to a computer programming error. Tuesday voters in the county used paper ballots at the polls. During last year's Presidential election voters used a computer touch screen system. A programming error caused the system to stop counting when it reached 3,005 votes. Director of the Carteret County Board of Elections, Lindy Lewis, says the paper ballot is just a temporary solution. Lewis expects counting the votes will take a bit longer.
