A winter weather advisory is in effect until 7am on Saturday for Beaufort, Mainland Hyde, Martin, Outer Banks Dare, Tyrrell, Washington and western Dare County. The threats are black ice and slick roadways.
Sunday the evacuation order was in effect only for tourists on Ocracoke Island in Hyde County. Monday, that order was extended to all 700 island residents. Hyde County officials say they made the call because it will take 72 hours to get residents off the island. They also say it allows for time to lock down the ferries. Dare County officials will meet again Tuesday morning to determine if there should be any sort of evacuation.
